YOUNG Stars made better use of their scoring opportunities to edge Temperance 22-19 in a WP Third Division rugby clash at Green Point Track on Saturday.
This was underscored by the mixed fortunes of Temps' centre Ricky Africa. He scored all his side's points, but missed a few goalable kicks when it mattered most.
Stars' opening try was scored by flanker, Ebrahim Felix, who burst through the midfield to dot down under the post.
Flyhalf, Alwie Samaai, added the conversion and also succeeded with a penalty. Stars' Lungesi January scored the second try when he chipped-kicked over the opposition backline and re-gathered the ball to score.
He added the conversion The home side's third try was scored in fine style. Flanker Sizwe July broke away from a ruck and shook off three defenders in a strong run for the line.
Temps centre Africa's 19-point haul included two tries and three penalties. He nevertheless failed with the conversions and three penalty attempts. Fellow centre Virgil Wepener also dropped a pass with a three-man overlap on his outside, with the tryline beckoning.
