THE Fish Hoek Cricket Club elected a new chairperson at its AGM on 16 August.
Derek Harvey (57) takes over the reigns from Mike Copeland, who served on the committee for 24 years.
Harvey has a passion for cricket and rugby.
He captained the Natal Colts in a game against Zimbabwe (then Rhodesia) in 1975, and as an accomplished cricketer he also captained the Natal Midlands during Country Districts Cricket.
Settled in the Fish Hoek Community, Harvey says his vision for the cricket club is to get all the members really involved in club activities.
"I believe the club belongs to all and therefore it is important that there is a sharing of responsibility, on and off the field".
Harvey says he has big shoes to fill but says he is sure he can rise to the challenge.
"I don't think anybody can appreciate how much work Mike Copeland has done for the club".
Excited about the new challenge, Harvey says, "There is a lot of enthusiasm among the young playing members and I am sure they will do well this season".
Other office bearers elected at the AGM include Brendan Wainright, the club captain, Greg Hawtry, secretary, Graham Conway, treasurer, and Mark Wynne, match secretary.
