    Fish Hoek runners conquer
    RUSSELL MACKINTOSH

ALL three of the Fish Hoek Athletic Club's entrants in the gruelling 160 km Tuffer PUFfeR race completed the event, held over the weekend of 25 and 26 August.

Andy McAughey came home in 6th position in a time of 29 hours 55 minutes and was followed by Beaumont Cooper just over 30 minutes later. Douglas Rossouw, who ran the first half of the course in the company of Cooper, finished in a time of 33:43.

The Tuffer PUFfeR route takes entrants from the Waterfront to Cape Point and back, using the trail paths along the mountainous spine of the Peninsula. Runners covered a large portion of the route during the dark of Friday night.

Saturday, 26 August also saw the 12th running of the 80 km Salomon PUFfeR from Cape Point to the Waterfront. A total of 120 runners started this epic trail run, which has grown in reputation to become the "Comrades of trail running".

The first Fish Hoek AC runner home was Ian Little, who placed fifth in a time of 9:09.

Congratulations should go to Serena Haupt, Martin Rohland and their assistants for a superbly organised event that Fish Hoek Athletics Club is proud to be the host of.

The local runners that finished the 2006 Salomon PUFfeR were: Ian Little 9:09; Karoline Hanks 9:24; Tim Elliot 10:24; Dave Jenkins 11:06; Mark Tolsma 11:55; Lindsay Weight 12:12; Paul van Eck 12:21; Chris Deroo 12:29; Steve Maitland 12:29; Serena Haupt 12:29; Richard Rossiter 13:01; Linda Els 13:10; and Russell Mackintosh 13:10.
