THE Cape Cobras' kingpin, Rory Kleinveldt, has returned to the Victoria Cricket Club after stints with the UCT and Primrose Clubs over the past two seasons.
Kleinveldt is set to play a number of matches for Victoria, the defending WPCA 1A League champions, particularly in December, when there is a lull in inter-provincial cricket.
Kleinveldt was the Cobras' second best bowler, with a 20-wicket haul, in the SuperSport Series, while he placed fourth with 10 wickets in the Standard Bank Cup last season.
The Cobras paceman made his return to Victoria at the recent national club championships in Gauteng, where the club disappointed in finishing third in a round robin group.
Victoria came unstuck in the last overs against Wellington CC and Nelson Mandela University, when they respectively failed to score the required four runs and two runs needed to win.
Victoria coach Deon Kemp said that he was pleased to have Kleinveldt back and that he was sure Kleinveldt will play a vital role in the club's bid to retain the 1A League title.
Kemp was also optimistic that Victoria's frontline bowler Marc de Stadler, who won the WPCA's best amateur player award last season, Warren Wyngard and Myles Williamson will build on their good form of last season. Especially when Kleinveldt and Proteas star, Ashwell Prince are unavailable because of provincial and national duties.
Victoria's opening two-day match (October 7 and 14) against Montrose has been postponed because of the month of Ramaadan. The Kenwyn-based side' next match is against Western Province CC on October 21 and 28.
The match between Primrose and United has also been postponed because of Ramaadan.
In other 1A League matches, UWC v Tygerberg; Alma v UCT; Bellville v WPCC and Cape Town v Durbanville.
In 1B League two-day action, St Augustine's v Edgemead at Elfindale, Glamorgan v Milnerton and Rivertonians v Wynberg.
