AN American college baseballer will enjoy a two-month stint with Crusaders in the Baseball Association of Western Province (BAWP) Major League competition.

Gregory Hickey (21) will wear the green and gold, while furthering his studies at the University of Cape Town in October and November.

Hickey has been a member of the Tomona College side in California for two seasons.

"This is my first visit to South Africa. I did not expect the game to be so popular here (in the Cape)," says Hickey, a versatile infielder who prefers the catchers position.

Crusaders, who were supposed to be relegated, have been retained in the 10-team Major League that starts on Saturday, 14 October.

Fixtures (home club first with matches at 13:00 and 16:00: Battswood v Bellville; Bothasig v Blaauwberg; Durbanville v Athlone; Thistle v Westridge; VOB v Crusaders.
