    Let the school Games begin...

AN inaugural national sport event in the shape of the SA Schools Games will draw over 5 000 youth to Cape Town from 3 to 6 December.

This will be the first joint venture by the national and provincial governments' sports and education departments to showcase their vision for schools sports.

Following the opening ceremony at the Bellville Athletics Stadium on Sunday at 19:00, events covering nine sports will be held at various venues across the Peninsula.

Rev AM Stofile, the national sports minister, and his deputy, Gert Oosthuizen will attend the ceremony, where the mass participation schools sports programme will be launched.

Nine provinces, including the Western Cape sides, will take part in the events that will focus strongly on summer sports like tennis, baseball and softball.

The events will start at 09:00 from next Monday until Wednesday. Softball matches are also scheduled for Turfhall Stadium in Crawford on Monday (19:00 - 21:00).

On Wednesday (19:00 - 21:00), the volleyballers will be in action at UCT, while at the same time, the gymnastics events will climax at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) in Bellville.
