SEVEN Western Province softballers will don the green and gold at the World Junior Women's u/19 Series in Poland in June.

The WP teens will feature in South Africa's debut at the world junior championship that is held every four years.

They are pitchers Megan Cable and Lauren Mulder, catchers Jacky Adonis and Nawaal Nacerodien, infielder Amee Campbell and outfielders Jade Abbott and Harlaine Jacobs.

Cable, Campbell and Abbott hail from the Westridge Yankees club, Nacerodien and Jacobs are from Tantasport, Mulder is from Glenthorn and Adonis from St Martin's.

While Cable and Adonis got the nod as u/19s at the trials held in Bloemfontein, the inclusion of their five younger u/17 contemparies comes as a boost for local softball.

The five rookies dominated the individual awards list when they represented Western Cape u/17s at the SA Games in Cape Town in December.

Nacerodien, besides underscoring her potential as a catcher, also received the best batter award, with an average of point 733.

Mulder (15), walked off with the best pitcher award, Campbell, the best infielder, also averaged point 533 with the bat, while Abbott batted point 500.

The Poland tour will be an invaluable experience for Mulder, as she is eligible to represent SA at the next World Junior Series in 2011.

Cable is a regular for Yankees in the WP Super League and will represent WP B at the inter-provincial championship in Pietersburg in March.

Japan are the defending u/19 champions, while the USA and China teams are the other strong contenders for the u/19 title.

SA and Botswana will be Africa's representatives at the 16-nation series.

The other SA u/19 players headed for Poland from 20 until 30 June are Adri Beyers, Natalie Cronje, Marizaan Henning, Jenne-Lee Pelser, Leone van Vuuren, Busi Dukwe (all Gauteng); Felicia Mokhufu, Salome Matabadzindi (both Limpopo); and Lisa Erasmus and Lara Erasmus (KZN).

Denise Paulsen, the vice-president of the WP Federation and general secretary of Softball South Africa (SSA), is chef de mission, while Paledi Twane is the manager and Cathy Dwinger is the assistant coach.

All provinces are required to submittheir nominations for the positions of head coach and technical coach before January 27 so that the SSA can finalise the positions.
