SO its the final minutes, everyone in the place waits with bated breath for the clock to stop. Nails are being bitten, tiny prayers are being said, the tension is thick in the air. A girl at the back of the pub starts shouting, "Olé, olé, olé, olé!".
Within seconds it catches on and soon everyone in the place, young and old, black and white, men and women are all chanting the same tune and clapping. Finally the clock ticks over and with a massive burst the entire place erupts.
Cheering, applause, singing, laughing and even the familiar sound of a vuvuzela can be heard in amongst the happy chaos.
Some boys shed their clothes and dive into the water next door for a celebratory dip.
For that moment an entire country was united: We were not black, white and brown ? we were all green and gold!
Our undefeated Bokke arrive home today ? no doubt to a crowd of cheering fans ? and with them they bring that shiny gold cup: A symbol that proves what most of us already knew... that they are, as Tina would say, simply the best!
What a moment, what a victory. A bit like watching a ping-pong game at times... but regardless, never before have I chewed my fingernails as hard as I did on Saturday night.
Like I said last week, Percy, you are just The Man! Only a true sporting hero can be pushed full force into a rather large camera (and a slightly disorientated camera man) and still manage to kick butt and take us to victory.
And did anybody witness that beautiful moment when that rather large Englishman charged full force at John Smit, bumping him from behind? It was like a comic book moment: Instead of knocking John over, the Englishman went flying backwards, landing with a huge thud. And as for John... well, he just kind of looked around as though he was thinking, "Funny, I could have sworn someone just tapped me!"
Like Superman, I tell you. Man of steel!
Seeing him holding up that cup, his eyes filled with pride and flashing that gorgeous smile, I couldn't help but wonder, "Is he married?" (Alas he is, but a girl can dream.)
It was a night few of us will ever forget!
A huge mention must go to the Brass Bell for providing a great vibe as usual, and a massive "Booyahkasha" and amen to our boys! The nation loves you!
You promised to bring it and boy you weren't kidding.
Just as the anthem says, you sounded the call to come together, and united we all stood!
