SO in true Backchat fashion, I welcomed the New Year with loud music, dancing, great friends, champagne, high heel shoes, a bit of bling and a brand new party dress!
After the mayhem of those insane asylums they call shopping malls, it was great to blow off some steam on the dance floor ? a night that lasted well into the daylight hours and saw all the die-hards looking to barter their tinsel hats and party poppers for a pair of shades.
And even though it took at least two full days to recover, it was all worth it in the name of fun!
And to think: this was quite a laid back party in my books!
So with the dust settling, the tinsel packed away and the scent of spilt booze and candle wax finally coming out of the carpets, it is once again ? can you believe it ? time to start all over again.
It has taken the better part of a week to adjust to the idea that beach sand and relaxation have been replaced by keyboards and notebooks.
But now that I am here and have come to terms with this rather sad truth, I feel ready to go and I am amped for the year ahead.
My December was monopolised by boring details like having to move house all over again and, to be honest, I was not in the best of spirits.
The first few days of 2008 I felt depressed: all the parties over, the idea of work looming, my new flat still covered in builders' dust and just generally feeling lost, bewildered and out of place... I was in what my sister quite cleverly called a "quarter-life crisis"!
But through the motivation of family and friends I am once again excited about the future and have a new philosophy: fresh, new starts are the way forward.
I am determined to make the most of the coming year and make things happen!
I have new hope, new vigour, new goals and renewed energy ?and even a new bling item in my nose. So now I can permanently sparkle, even when I'm feeling down.
2008 is going to be THE year!
To quote a family member (who wants to remain anonymous due to the embarrassment of quoting Justin Timberlake): this year "we're bringing sexy back!"
