Pleased to meet you, Mr House - we're your owners

A UK couple who bought their Somerset West home off the internet seven months ago visited their property, and South Africa, for the first time this week - and were thrilled with what they saw.

Steve and Christine Stanfield of East Bourne in East Sussex bought a three-bedroom home in Heritage Park's Tuscana Close in March this year for R440 000. They had never visited South Africa before, but were looking for a property to invest in when they came across an ad for Heritage Park in South Africa News, a newspaper distributed in the UK.

They then went onto Heritage Park's website, liked what they saw, and made contact with Mr Heritage Park, George Hazelden, who sent them more details and photos of Tuscana Close's homes.

The home's finishes were also decided on over the internet, with George e-mailing the couple photos of all the available trimmings to choose from.

Once the sale was concluded, George also arranged for a tenant for their home.

Steve and Christine's home has since appreciated by 39%, and they are thrilled at its performance as an investment.

    'Oohs' and 'aahs'
The couple saw their home for the first time on Monday this week, and many "oohs" and "aahs" were expressed as they walked through the dining room, ran their fingers over the kitchen tops, and discovered the built-in cupboards.

They were also delighted to see the pretty park that had been built in the centre of Tuscana Close.

Steve, who works for a fire protection company, said he and Christine may look at spending holidays in South Africa some time in the future, but for now their Heritage Park home is meant only as an investment.

George says that the number of foreign buyers of Helderberg properties is not letting up, but only increasing, as the lack of investment options overseas drives them to explore other options, of which South Africa is a particularly enticing one.

He says the capital appreciation in Steve and Christine's home is not out of the ordinary for homes in Tuscana Close, which have increased in value from 15% to 49%, with an average increase of 22%. The development was launched in November last year.
