For the first time the Living Heritage Jazz Festival is to be held at Artscape Theatre Centre and will be presented annually during the Easter weekend. Introducing a new concept with magic components to inspire and entertain audiences, the festival this year will be staged over three days from Friday, March 21 to Sunday, March 23 in the Artscape Theatre.
Dr Pallo Jordan, Minister of Arts & Culture, has endorsed this project which celebrates our musical heritage through our extraordinary South African artists.
The Living Heritage Jazz Festival 2008 will pay special tribute to families, youth and women in jazz as well as to living legends who have made lifetime contributions to the music industry in South Africa. The concerts will present previously untold stories of South African families responsible for the legacy of the notable urban music created during the golden and contemporary age of music in South Africa.
Amongst the impressive line-up of Western Cape Jazz acts included this year are Winston Mankunku Ngozi, Cups Nkanuka Big Band, Robbie Jansen, Little Giants, Ngcukana Brothers, Four Sounds, Dyers Brothers, Moses Brothers, Alou April, Mark Fransman, Zelda Benjamin, Phyllis Madikwa, Fancy Galada and many more artists.
