    180408

AN exhibition by four local artists, will open on April 18 at The Barn of Vredenburg Farm, Winery Road in Firgrove. The opening is by invitation only, but the exhibition will be open to the public from April 19 to 26 from 10:00 to 18:00 daily. The four local artists exhibiting are Anita Bunn, Harry Adriaans, Nina Ruch-Claussen and Daniel Brunner. They will exhibit oil paintings, watercolours and sculptures.

Says Harry, "The idea behind the exhibition is to get local artists together, but people who are passionate about their artwork, and to show locals what good quality artist live in the Helderberg." All the artworks are for sale. Phone Peter on 082 964 2222 for more details.

Anita Bunn obtained her law degree, but it was not until she left the country in 1999 and settled in Richmond, Virginia, USA, that she discovered her artistic flair. The Martha Maybe Gallery took her on as an artist and she exhibited regularly with other artist. During this time The Medical College of Virginia was scouting for art for their permanent collection and chose one of her paintings. When she moved to Colorado, she exhibited at various galleries before relocating back to the Helderberg to raise her son.

Her artistic career was put on hold as full time mother and breadwinner took the lead. The paintings she managed between her other responsibilities, reflect her struggles, desires, frustrations and passions.

Harry Adriaans, born in the Netherlands, studied art and worked as a colorist at one of the most important textile printers in his native country.

In 1973 he started his own studio and developed into one of the most famous textile designers in Europe. He has had numerous exhibitions in his studio and also in Canada.

Very special was his work on wooden panels in detailed realistic technique. Currently his work exists of different styles: modem as well as figurative, collage and realistic. Nina Ruch studied fine art where she was greatly influenced by one of her professors, Jan Vanmeiren.

After travelling in Europe and South America for two years, she started to work in her own studio in the Stellenbosch area, holding exhibitions in Cape Town and in Switzerland.

She now lives on a farm in the Helderberg. Her influences are very much from the area with its beautiful scenery and colourful characters. Each of her pictures tells a story dealing with the questions of life and man's relationship to himself and the world around him.

Daniel Brunner does metal sculptures from scrap metal gathered in his back yard in St James Street, Somerset West. He has travelled extensively and tried his hand at various business ventures, but it is in his studio, designing sculptures, that is happy
