Cars hit dog, but didn't bother to stop
    180708

A "VERY DISGUSTED" LISA BURGESS writes: Are you perhaps one of the idiots who drove over my beloved Jack Russel on Saturday June 21 at about 12:00?

This little dog (Roxy) accidentally slipped out past my younger sister and ran off.

Anyone who has a Jack Russel will know that they are natural escape artists.

My sister freaked out and my mom assured her that Roxy would be fine and come home as usual. That however did not happen. A family friend watched in horror as my little dog was hit by not one but two vehicles. Neither stopped. This happened on the Sir Lowry's Pass road in Gordon's Bay. She must have been on her way home.

Our friend was walking in the direction of Gordon's Bay Primary when she heard that something got hit. She did not recognise Roxy until the second vehicle hit my little dog.

Roxy had just enough strength to get to our friend who then carried her home.

Unfortunately it was too late. My dog died! We live literally around the corner from where it happened.

Why did you not stop? Where were you looking that you could not slow down or hoot or anything to try and avoid hitting her? How fast were you driving? Did you really think that hitting that animal would not affect someone's life? I know who is responsible for the first hit and that he also has a little Maltese. How would you feel if your little dog just vanished without an explanation?

Let me tell you how I feel. I have, what feels like a massive hole in my chest, like something was stolen from me. I am angry that the people who hit her didn't care enough to stop and do something like take her to a vet.

Instead, you kept on driving and she got hit again! What if that was a person? Roxy was supposed to grow old, instead someone stole the rest of her life. She wasn't even four years old. At least she died in the arms of someone who cared for her. Not like my sister's cat, Tigger who just vanished, and whose decomposed body was later found by the very same friend. On the same road from hell!

I do not have that little shadow walking around after me. Jumping on my lap for a nap. That warm body of my companion is not there anymore.

I might feel different if I knew you tried to do something to help her.

My sympathy goes out to anyone who has lost their animals to a car.
