    Junior Nationals tennis
    231107

The Boland Mini Series Masters Junior Tennis Tournament took place in the Strand earlier this month and once again produced some top class tennis. This prestigious event was sponsored by Sportsmans Warehouse and was played at the Strand tennis club.

Two local players excellent by capturing the Masters titles ahead of tough contenders.

Brigitte Beck won the u/12 girls section and Philip Franken the u/12 boy's division.

What makes this achievement even more special is that both of these players are both still u/11 and had to play opponents who are already a year older than them.

Philip beat Jaco Joubert (also from the Helderberg) 6-0, 6-1 in the finals and Brigitte beat Jessica Simpson (WP) 6-2, 6-1.

Another local player who fared well was Dean Stephen who lost 6-2, 6-1 to Marc van der Merwe in the boys u/14 finals.

Junior tennis players are once again reminded of the forthcoming South African Junior Coastal Nationals Tennis Tournament which will be played from December 14 to 18 on tennis courts in and around the Helderberg and Stellenbosch.

This tournament will be presented by Sportsmans Warehouse and Boland Junior Tennis.

This is a top level junior tournament and attracts the best players from South Africa.

No less than 480 tennis players entered the event in 2006 and the organisers are again expecting large numbers of entries this year.

The categories of the competition are: u/12, u/14, u/16 and u/18 for boys and girls (singles and doubles).

There will also be an Open event for men and women of all ages, with significant prize money.

Aspiring champions who have not entered yet, should do so before the closing date of November 30.

For enquiries and entries go to www.bolandtennis.com or www.tr3.co.za or phone the organiser, Pierre Mont-gomery, on tel/fax (021) 855-0375.
