ZAMDELA. - The municipality alone cannot keep the environment clean and everyone needs to pull up their sleeves and take full responsibility. These were the words of Metsimaholo Executive Mayor Fezi Ngubentombi during a Women's Month meeting that was held at Nkgopoleng Secondary School, recently.
At the event, Ngubentombi spoke not only on women's issues, but also on various environmental issues, including the bucket system that is hindering the people of Refengkgotso. She says that they are dealing with the bucket system and she appealed for patience. Councillor Ngubentombi says that the municipality understands the predicament, but adds that it is not easy to accommodate every person.
Charmaine Mabale, regional supervisor of the Fezile Dabi District municipality and member of Free State Electoral Commission of South Africa, also spoke at the meeting and said that women have always provided leadership, yet it was never really recognised as such. She says that, for democracy to succeed, women should take their rightful places in leadership positions.
She says that there are more registered women voters than men and in next year's elections, the number of the women in council needs to be given attention, seeing as at Metsimaholo 12 out of 36 councillors are women.
* Meanwhile, as the municipality was busy with the proceedings inside the school hall, informal settlement dwellers toyi-toyied due to a lack of service delivery.
