SEDIBENG. - The St. Luke's Methodist Church in Sharpeville is heading to Graskop in Mpumalanga for a trip meant to raise funds for the completion of the church's new hall.
In an interview with Emma and Mofedi Mofedi, some of elders and leaders of the church, it was revealed that the church started planning the trip in April this year. "We have used other ways of raising funds in the past, but this is by far the best idea that we have put together," says Emma Mofedi. So far 38 people have signed up for the R700 trip, which will see travellers spend four days in Mpumalanga.
However, Mofedi says that the trip is open to other churches and organisations that would like to tag along with St. Luke's Methodist Church. The trip will be from October 2 to 5. "The R700 covers transport and accommodation for the four days," he says.
The duo also highlighted the need for all congregations across Sedibeng to learn that all organisations, including churches, need some financial muscle to survive as churches.
Mofedi says that he is grateful that the church will soon realise its 25-year-old dream of having its own hall. "We have been talking for the past 25 years that we should have our own hall, now it is the time to do it," says Mofedi, who says he remembers the long wait, because his son was baptized in the church 25 years ago.
