Sports Beat always stresses the fact that I do not write stories to please individuals, but rather to highlight the good and the bad taking place in local sports. Therefore Sports Beat will do this without any fear or sounding biased.
Sports Beat has no friends when it comes to my profession regardless of how hard some try to please me.
For the uninformed, the role of the media is to inform, educate and entertain. However, it is safe for Sports Beat to suggest that some sports writers in this country act like toothbrushes to many sports administrators, especially when it comes to soccer.
Forgive me for saying this, but it seems that sports administrator need to be criticised before things start getting done. They have a habit of taking things personal when they are being criticised for their misdemeanours.
After Sports Beat expressed its dissatisfaction regarding to the Safa Vodacom Promotional League last week, I received a call from a certain soccer administrator asking what I want from Jeff Monnakgotla?
They even "snitched" Sports Beat to Monnakgotla about what I said in last week's column (not that I care, though; after all, the man was supposed to read it anyway). To worsen matters, Sports Beat's haters misinterpreted the article to suit their personal egos.
On the other hand, Sports Beat compliments Monnakgotla for his approach to Sports Beat. He was very professional and did not take my remarks personally. Of course he was upset about what I said about him, but he was in good spirits joking about it a couple of minutes later.
The man certainly understands how the media works because he did not take this matter personally despite his "comrades" trying very hard to convince him that Sports Beat has something against him. These are the very same people who contribute to the deterioration of our local sports. Instead of fighting other people's battles, these Sports Beat haters should rather focus on sports development.
Sports Beat will not be intimidated by any means whatsoever.
Oeshee Kuze Kuse!
