Local undertaker faces murder charges
By Lazarus Dithagiso

BOPHELONG. - A prominent local undertaker was arrested for the murder of his wife and was released on bail by the Vanderbijlpark magistrate's court on Thursday. This was in connection with an incident that occurred at his house in Ext. 17 on September 24.

According to the eyewitnesses, the suspect hit his wife on the head with an empty bottle several times. He apparently accused her for going out with some friends and arriving home late.

Vaal Weekly's sources says that the man was known to be immensely jealous of the woman and allegedly burnt some of her clothes in a fit of rage once.

The wife was knocked unconscious and witnesses claim that upon seeing his wife lying motionless, he fled the scene.

Thereafter domestic workers reported the incident to the police and emergency services, but the woman died on her way to the hospital.

Police spokesperson Inspector Kinnie Steyn confirms the incident and says that the victim was stabbed with a sharp instrument.

The suspect was arrested and appeared in court a few days later. Investigations are still underway and members of the public that might be able to assist are requested to do so.
