ERP's expensive meeting needed
By Sonqoba Kunene

EVATON. - The Evaton Renewal Project (ERP) will hold its Annual General Meeting (AGM) from April 11-13. The two proposed venues for the AGM are the Riviera Hotel in Vereeniging and the Emerald Casino in Vanderbijlpark.

Upon hearing this, some residents, including Johnny Mkhonto Radebe, raised concerns that the money to be spent on the AGM should rather be used for development, but the Evaton Development Forum believes that the AGM is necessary. Radebe was also invited to the AGM.

"People must understand that the purpose of this AGM is not only to elect a new committee, seeing as there will also be workshops for those in attendance." These are the words of Love Moremi, the project's Deputy Chairperson, when asked about the decision to move the AGM meant for the Evaton Renewal Project stakeholders to Vereeniging or Vanderbijlpark.

Moremi also did not confirm allegations that last year the Evaton Renewal Project spent R2 million on its AGM that was held in Benoni.

Moremi further states that there are no facilities in Evaton that are capable of hosting the planned AGM and workshops at the same time. "If you call stakeholders to a two-day workshop, they only come for one day," says Moremi when asked whether there was a need for workshop attendants to spend two nights in a hotel.

At the time of going to press, the Evaton Renewal Project had not confirmed their venue of choice for the AGM. However, Moremi shed some light on the AGM?s agenda. Part of the issues to be discussed is last year's project report and planning for the next financial year.
