Sizzling ‘Sax to come to the Cape
    GARY VAN DYK

IF you like the sounds of saxophones, the place to be on Sunday will be Swinger’s O21 Lounge in Wetton when they host a special saxophone summit featuring three of the countries top instrumentalists.

Mark Fransman, Buddy Wells and Ivan Masuze will be the main acts at A Love Supreme: The Saxophone Summit at the venue at 1 Wetwyn Road, Wetton starting at 17:00.

For the past few years these three musicians have been in the forefront of their craft playing at some of the top festivals and venues around the country.

Fransman is also an accomplished bandleader and composer with two of his most prominent projects being the group Tribe as well as Strait and Narro, both of which also features Wells on sax.

As a musician he also is an accomplished pianist, composer and producer.

Wells is also no stranger to the local scene having been part of some truly remarkable bands during his career.

These include the group Kusasa that used to feature guitarist Allou April, and well as the Truly Fully Hey Shoo Wow band that used to be led by Dave Ledbetter in the late 90s.

Masuze, originally from Mozambique, has also grown into a force on the local scene and is known for his passion for playing the standards.

He has been a part of Frank Paco’s Tucan Tucan over the years and along with the other two participants in this summit also featured in guitarist Jimmy Dludlu’s band a few years ago.

On Sunday these three musicians will be featured with the group Loading Zone and music lovers are sure to be in for a treat of their arrangements of some of the standards from the jazz repertoire as well as some of their exciting original material.

Tickets, which will be on sale at the door, cost R50.

For more information and to book a space, phone Swinger’s O21 Lounge on 021 762 2443.
