ARMED and dangerous. This is how robbers operating in the Tuscany Glen area can be described.
One person has already been shot by these robbers who seem to target people walking through or near the bushes in the vicinity of Tuscany Glen High School.
The Kleinvlei police have for the past two weeks seen an alarming increase in incidents where victims are robbed at gunpoint in this vicinity.
Police reports indicate that the male suspects, who according to information supplied to police operate in a group of six, approach and confront their victims violently.
Insp Annacletta Mothoalo from Kleinvlei Communications said the majority of the victims reported that they were approached by these six suspects.
There are however also reports of victims who had been approached by groups of two and three suspects.
“During one of these incidents a victim was approached by three unknown men who demanded money. One of the suspects threatened him with a firearm, the others searched him and robbed him of his cellphone and took his firearm,” Mothoalo said.
During one of these robberies, a victim was shot and wounded in the arm.
No suspects had been arrested yet.
The Kleinvlei police have shifted their focus and full attention in combatting these robberies and according to Mothoalo have come up with an operational plan.
Mothoalo could not supply much detail about the plan as this could hamper their investigation.
Mothoalo said: “In response to these increases police have held a meeting last week Monday, together with the neighbourhood watches and community in the area.”
According to Mothoalo, the station commissioner, Sen Supt Christopher Jones and the sector commander of sector two, Capt Nathan Burger under which the area Tuscany Glen falls, came up with a plan during this meeting.
“The police are going to increase patrols in this area and the neighbourhood watches will assist in patrolling the area from 18:00 to 20:00,” Mothoalo elaborated.
There will also be officers placed in strategic places to increase police visibility.
Mothoalo added: “There are plans to call in air support to help us with this problem and we plan to contact the city council for options to cut down those bushes.”
The police instructed people to be alert and avoiding walking through or near these bushes. Mothoalo added: “People must not walk there alone, it is dangerous, especially when they come from work.”
People with information or those who have been attacked by these robbers are asked to contact the Kleinvlei police on 021 902 8300.
