    They want change
    TANDIE NTSEPE

INJONGO Gospel Group based in Harare Section 33, is one of those groups that engage themselves in changing the lives of young people in the communities.

The group is made up of five young men aged between 18 and 25. To other people who do not listen to their sweet voices when they deliver God’s message, they are a normal ordinary persons. But behind their pink shirts they are burning with evangelical belief.

The interesting thing about the group is that it has a constitution that governs the behaviour of the group members.

WHY DO YOU CALL YOURSELVES INJONGO?

Our aim is to proclaim Christ to change youth’s lives and Injongo is more attractive and perfect for our aim.

    WHY DO YOU SING GOSPEL?

We were born in and grew up in the Church and saw that young people are the ones who get involved with and are affected by crime. So we decided that it will be better to form a gospel group where we will proclaim Christ to change lives. This is best because no-one ends up in jail because of robbery or kidnapping. Everyone will know that by accepting Jesus, he or she e has everything in life. The gospel has an input in combating crime.

    HOW WAS THE GROUP STARTED?

We started in 2005 with a group of ten from different groups as Soul Receivers. When we met for the first time, the attendance was low. Some members did not apologize as required by the group constitution and there was no progress. Then in 2008 we decided to move on with our call.

HOW DO YOU CHOOSE YOUR CLUB MEMBERS?

We don’t know each other but by God’s choice we met and became family. We are all from the rural areas in the Eastern Cape.

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE CHALLENGES THAT YOU FACE AS A GROUP?

We have a financial problem as we are not working and a lack of equipment.

HOW DO YOU SOLVE CONFLICTS WITHIN A GROUP?

We are born Christians, so if we have any issues, we all sit down as family and ask Almighty to be an additional member and solve them within a group. We try to deal with issues as soon as possible to avoid them affecting our relationships inside and outside the group.

WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT AS A GROUP?

Since we met we had to learn that your problem is my problem. This way, it helps us to groom each other.

    WHAT HOLDS YOU TOGETHER?

Prayers, support from our parents and community members is an excellent motivation to us, that keep us close.

DO YOU HAVE PLANS TO EXPAND?

For now we are planning to keep the group the way it is

WHAT IS YOUR MESSEGE TO YOUTH?

Our goal is to see the youth out of crime. Young folks must go out for information.
