The two Waldorf learners who won prizes in the prestigious Moorcroft South African design competition winged their way to Johannesburg last week Thursday with their teacher Merle Boshoff.
The award ceremony took place at the Sandton Convention Centre as part of the annual National Antiques and Decorative Arts Fair. Mbongeni Sanda (14) and Nqobile Mbatha (12) did their designs on watercolour and they heard in October 2007 that their designs won in the under 16 category.
Mbongeni's design depicts the lush African landscape and is entitled Table Mountain and Nqobile created Home Amongst the Trees. Several hundred entrants were received and TV celebrity and BBC Antiques Roadshow expert Eric Knowles, was the auctioneer at the glittering affair. All proceeds of the sale went to the SA Twilight Children, a charity based in Johannesburg that provides street children with shelter and outreach programmes, including training in pottery and art.
