Pennypinchers Overberg held its “Work to Win - Licence to Build” grand final draw on 18 June, when ten finalists whose entries had been randomly selected from more than 20 000 entries gathered at the Wine Village.

The ten excited finalists were Ryno Swarts - Walker Bay Decking; Jerome Kennedy - Kennedy & Hattingh; Roland Lewis representing Marcel Matusik - USIK Construction; John Hanson-Moore - Ricketts Trust; Grant & Rosemarie McLuckie; Rodney Gillion - Gillion Builders; Andre Sherriff - TA Sherriff & Sons; Mervyn Oliver - Oliver Construction; Mario le Roux - Dries le Roux Konstruksie and Vic Blomquist.

They each drew a balloon which they in turn popped with a 6 inch nail. Inside they found a number that determined the order in which they would choose one of ten Big Jim toolboxes.

Hidden in each toolbox was either one of nine consolation prizes or the keys to the grand prize - the Ford Bantam bakkie. With trepidation, each finalist stepped up to the front and selected a box.

The crowd held its breath as they opened their box and peered inside. Nervous laughter filled the room as one by one they shook their heads, walking away with one of the fantastic consolation prizes. Rosemarie McLuckie picked the lucky toolbox and became the proud new owner of a Ford Bantam bakkie. The remaining two finalists walked away with the consolations prizes and their toolboxes which were filled with various tools and surprises.

Pennypinchers would like to thank their suppliers who contributed generously.

    Store of the Year

Overberg's own Pennypinchers has been voted Pennypinchers Store Of The Year for the last five years, “This remarkable achievement is a tribute to the partnership we have built with our team of employees and our customers over the last ten years,” says John Makepeace, joint venture operator of Pennypinchers Overberg.

The store is a highly successful example of the unique Pennypinchers joint venture model in which the business operates in a 50:50 partnership with the franchisor. A feature of this model is that the franchisee is hand-picked for his ability to run the business, as opposed to just having the necessary investment to purchase a franchise.

This partnership brings all the benefits of entrepreneurial spirit and attention to detail of an owner-operated business, as well as the benefits of being part of a major international manufacturing and retail group - Steinhoff International.

The store is well known for its top quality products suitable for all building requirements and stocks a comprehensive range from leading and trusted brands. Pennypinchers Overberg delivers daily to a wide area including Betty's Bay, Pringle Bay, Kleinmond, Botrivier, Greyton, Caledon, Stanford, De Kelders, Gansbaai, Franskraal, Pearly Beach, Uilenkraalsmond, Bredasdorp, Napier and just about anywhere else by prior arrangement.
