    Rivals battle it out
    Chris van Wyk

For the fourth year in succession the Helderberg bowlers have managed to keep the Hermanus bowlers at bay in the annual interclub competition.

It was started in 1984 by Pieter Grant and Dudley Cawood, former presidents of Helderberg and Hermanus respectively, to further good relations between bowlers from either side of the mountain.

Twenty-five years later it is still a very popular contest with much enthusiasm shown by both parties. Rivalry among the 28 teams was of a good nature and all in all it was a most enjoyable day. The floating trophy will now remain on the Helderberg Bowling Club's shelf until the next battle in 2009. The final score was 88 shots to Helderberg and 84 to Hermanus.

To celebrate the 25th anniversary, the team with the highest score was surprised with a special prize. Congratulations to Piet de Wet, Paul Menzies, Sarah Joubert and Annetjie van Vuuren. One team member from each club was also fortunate to receive a card drawn prize.

Members of the club who gave of their time and energy to see to the needs of the players were sincerely thanked by the presidents of both clubs. Soup made by members for the participants? return journey was also much appreciated.

On Saturday, 10 May and Sunday morning, 11 May, players from Glen Country Club will be gra-cing the greens of the bowling club. Come join in the fun and make new friends.
