LATVIAN BALLET DANCERS BACK IN THE CITY: Following the success of the South African International Ballet Competition held recently in Cape Town, the Cape Town City Ballet has enticed the award-winning Latvian couple, Elza Leimane and Raimond Martinov, back to our city. The pair will dance the leading roles in the forthcoming production of "The Merry Widow" from Saturday, 10 May to Sunday, 25 May. This intoxicating tale of money, romance and intrigue takes place at the beginning of the 20th century in a fictitious Pontevedrinian embassy in the heart of Paris. Set to Franz Lehar's lavish score, "The Merry Widow" boasts visual highlights from spectacular ballroom scenes and toe tapping Can Cans. The women smoulder with sensuality and the men ooze seductive charm. A special gala evening will be held on Saturday, 24 May, at 19:00, which includes a formal reception after the performance. Tickets are priced from R70 to R150 for the general event; and R190 to R200 for the Gala performance. Matinee performances will be held at 14:00 and evening performances at 19:00 or 20:00. Book now at Computicket and at Artscape's Dial-a-Seat on (021) 421-7695.Photo: Nan Melville
