Absa online banking back on track

2012-05-25 18:14

Cape Town – Absa bank’s online and mobile problems have been solved.

Earlier on Friday hundreds of users were left furious as Absa bank’s online and mobile systems failed to work, taking to social media forums to voice their concerns.

"The problem has been rectified and service has been restored across Absa’s online and mobile banking channels," the bank told News24.

Absa also extended the cut-off time for payments to 18:00 to accommodate those affected.

"The bank sincerely apologises for any inconvenience caused," Absa added.

Users had taken to Twitter and other social media forums to voice their concerns.

PaulRotherhamZA tweeted, "Annoying to see #ABSA online banking site appears to have been down most of the day. Constantly hanging and telling me "technical error"!”

"Would like to say extremely nasty things about #Absa which include words like bankruptcy, incompetence and a load of swear words #paydayfail," @Chriscaptivate tweeted

Absa rolled out an upgrade to its online banking platform earlier this week.

The ageing internet banking platform was in need of an upgrade and Absa rebuilt the platform to be more user friendly, the bank said.

      Melanie Kuschke - 2012-05-26 08:04

It is NOT only ABSA all the banks - and not one will re-imburse for loss of income. Worst is customer with card declined gets sms that money off account but not through on Merchant machine - Try explain this to customer who thinks you trying to rob them! Come on banks and Bankserv get your act together

ABSA sucks, lots of high bank charges, deceptive "savings accounts" that don't pay interest.

    Switch to FNB

      wesley.nel.5 - 2012-05-25 19:03

Never in my life, even if t hey are the last bank on earth

      sas.kloppers - 2012-05-25 19:31

FNB and ABSA are the same company. Barklays. Rather go somewhere else.

      OzzyIn - 2012-05-26 00:18

sas.klopperrs, it is Barclays not Barklays. Barclays do not have a stake in the FirstRand Bank Group.

Here's my email to their action line (without the asterisks) Your banking services in general and internet banking in particular is F*CKING pathetic. Next time we lose business due to your SH*T service I will send you an invoice with a Finl Demand for payment. Forward this to your useless, idiot chairman. Sas Kloppers Precision Engine Rebuilders (Pty) Ltd

      OzzyIn - 2012-05-26 00:21

Your language in your email is unlikely to get a response from ABSA or ANY bank you move your accounts to. Regaradless of you frustration, if you cannot be polite, ina a business sense, then you can take your business elsewhere.

ABSA is down because they just laid off all those IT staff!

      OzzyIn - 2012-05-26 00:32

Sort of. The selected an inferior Core Banking and Channels solution and are paying the price. The market and analysts show quite perfectly who the top 3 world-wide in Banking Solutions are, yet both ABSA aand Standard Bank go with vendors outside the top 3. Both are stuggling, for different reasons and lack of delivery. Standard Bank are bleeding money. In comparison Capitec Bank, outlayed the money to one of the Top 3 Core Banking Solution vendors and are the fastest growing bank in SA. They took a chance on technology. And, despite obsticles from the Big 4 in SA, they are taking business from the Big 4 at an alarming rate. While the Big 4 in SA struggle with either archaic systems and refuse to change (Nedbank and FNB), others have mad bad choices with vendors who are not in the international top 3 (Standard Bank and ABSA). You, the customers, suffer from these poor decisions. And pay for it as well in fees on your accounts.

You might give a press release and say all is well! However using an apple prohibits me from doing Internet banking with my mobile. Please get an app , even if it means following. Just stay with Technology, els you will lose me shortly!!
