Missouri - Engineers have developed a fuel cell battery that can run on flat soda, tree sap, or any other sugar source.
The prototype, the size of a postage stamp, powers a handheld calculator, but the technology could eventually replace lithium ion batteries in many portable electronic devices, according to the engineers at St Louis University in Missouri.
The military has shown interest in using the sugar battery on the battlefield for chemical weapon sensors and other devices, which could be instantly recharged by adding virtually any convenient sugar source.
