BlackBerry service down

2012-09-21 14:29

London - BlackBerry maker Research In Motion is reporting an outage affecting users in Europe, Middle East and Africa - interrupting service for customers on the day Apple started selling its iPhone 5.

RIM announced the issues in postings on Facebook and Twitter on Friday, and says it is urgently working to fix the troubles. It apologized to customers for the inconvenience caused.

The outage brought up unpleasant memories of troubles with e-mails and chat messages last year that left users bereft for three days.

In the US and Canada, the outage was shorter, but many of the world's 70 million BlackBerry users were affected.

The timing could not have been worse: Lines formed outside of Apple stores in Britain as the new iPhone went on sale.

This does not bode well for RIM. Black Berry users had better start preparing to jump ship to either apple or android. RIM needs a miracle to get out of its current situation as the nails to the coffin keep adding up. each one sealing the fate of BBM users. BBM is a new entry to the dictionary. will they remove it after the final nail has been hammered and RIM is a relic?

You forgot WP8 - the third beast to the Mobile Ecosystem. Article doesn't state if its 70 Mil BIS users or 70 Mil Blackberry Handset users.

The only reason blackberry is still used sort of widely in third world technology outposts like South Africa is because of the high cost of data. In first world countries, where there is intense competition and data is cheap, people use other better cellphones to surf the net. Here, blackberry offers its service for R60 a month and that is what keeps it going. Its a matter of time before this country comes into the 21st century with data prices and then its tickets to Blackberry and its pathetic phones and useless service.

Not everyone can afford the iPhone, and by the way Blackberry Market is growing in Southern Africa.......

The problem is when RIM finally dies, all those black berry phones will be nothing more than bricks, paper weights and door stoppers.
