'Everyone wants a DNA test'

Johannesburg - The response to the
documentary programme So, Where Do We Come From? has been phenomenal, M-Net says.
The channel has received a considerable number of phone calls from viewers who want to find out more about their ancestry, spurred on by what they saw during Carte Blanche on Sunday.
According to the channel, viewers mostly wanted to know how and where they could have their DNA tested.
The good news is that these tests are now being done commercially in South Africa.
The new genealogy website
www.mwebancestry.co.za has formed a partnership with Genecare, one of South Africa's leading Genetic Diagnostic Laboratories, to conduct such tests.
The site is also the home of the most comprehensive
population database of its kind in the country. Thanks to this database, South Africans can now build their own family trees online and connect the dots of their recent ancestry.
The tremendous debate which the documentary has sparked will be analysed on a special edition of Talk with Tim, to be broadcast on September 23 at 22:30. The panel will include Tim Modise, Max du Preez, Prof Himla Soodyall and Soxola Mangcu.
If you missed the first broadcast of the documentary on M-Net, you can catch the repeat on October 1 at 10:00.
There is also an Afrikaans version of the documentary - So, Waar Kom Ons Vandaan?, which can be viewed on kykNET on September 21 at 20:00.
This screening will be followed by a panel discussion at 21:00
chaired by Frederick van Zyl Slabbert, and featuring James Jeffery, Prof Himla Soodyall and Bertie du Plessis.
The show will be repeated on September 22 at 15:00, September 23 at 10:30 and September 24 at 18:30, all on kykNET.
