Galaxy Nexus to challenge iPhone 4S

Hong Kong - Samsung Electronics has unveiled its Galaxy Nexus smartphone - the first to use the latest version of Google's Android operating system.

The Galaxy Nexus is seen as the Samsung-Google partnership's answer to Apple's recently released iPhone 4S.

At Wednesday's unveiling in Hong Kong, Google executive Andy Rubin touted Android's special features such as the Android Beam and Face Unlock.

Android Beam allows transfer of data between two Galaxy Nexus smartphones by holding them together, while Face Unlock uses facial recognition technology to activate the unit, rather than conventional passwords.

The Galaxy Nexus goes on sale in November.

Android beam sounds like infrared... maybe they should call it infragreen...

Nothing new abt the Beam- iPhone came up with the Bump app a while back. I don't see why they would say they have an answer to the iPhone, when all they do is just duplicate Apple innovations. I'll start listening to them when they make a new phone that has countless new innovations that iPhone hasn't done yet, which till now they are all failing. Rather go the Blackberrie way and come up with something so grand like BBM, which is the only thing BB can actually gloat about even after all these yrs cos it's just so damn gr8, otherwise iPhone beats everything of every1 hands down.

You can get bump on Android too. It's not a purely iPhone app.

Really spotty? Apple never invented anything, they just have a great marketing strategy.

Yep. Palm has been going strong in the touch-screen phone market for years before Apple came along with the iPhone and the rest is just cellular technology. What Apple does well is make things pretty, which is a good thing in its own right, but is still different from innovation.
