Google marries new with old

San Francisco - Online click-ad king Google announced on Tuesday that people using the search engine's map program could print out old-fashioned coupons redeemable at US stores.
The service was the result of an alliance with Valpak, a company known for mailing packets of localised coupons in blue envelopes to US homes.
Valpak coupons have traditionally included discounts on dry cleaning, auto maintenance, dentistry, pet supplies, home improvements and pizzas.
Information about available Valpack coupons was being displayed on Google Maps along with search results and business listings, the companies said in a joint release.
Computer users could print out coupons to redeem at businesses. Valpak has been in the coupon business since 1968 and has franchises in Canada, Puerto Rico and the United States, according to the company.
Its coupons were already available online at its website.
