Zaragoza - Chewing gum or sucking sweets at the wheel improves tired drivers' reaction time, according to a study published by Spain's Zaragoza University on Friday.
The study tested 40 drivers who had not slept for 19 hours in a cabin simulating conditions in a moving car.
Those who were chewing gum or sucking sweets reacted faster in 67% of cases.
The action of chewing and the taste of candy helped maintain attention levels, researchers concluded. - Sapa-dpa
