MP3s 'as loud as a F1 car'

Hamburg - Several portable MP3 players can be as loud as a Formula 1 car, causing irreparable damage to your hearing, the German Forum of Good Hearing (FGH) has warned.

It quoted a recent British study which found that 39% of 18 to 24-year-olds spent at least one hour per day listening to music via headphones with a volume of up to 105 decibels.

Youths listening to music at such a volume for just over 25 minutes were exposing their hearing to the maximum level the ears could tolerate in a week, according to FGH.

Several portable MP3 Players were found to have a volume of 130 decibels, which was the same sound level produced by a Formula 1 car on the racing track.
