Mamma Obama bans Facebook for kids
Washington - President Barack Obama's daughters Malia and Sasha won't be on Facebook anytime soon, First Lady Michelle Obama said Wednesday.
"I'm not a big fan of young kids having Facebook. It's not something they need. It's not necessary," Obama told the NBC Today show, revealing that neither girl has been allowed to create an account.
Obama said she views the strict internet guidelines as the upside of the security bubble that envelopes the first family.
"I think we're lucky that there are a lot of constraints - stuff like Secret Service," she told the TV network.
Malia Obama is 12 years old, while her younger sister Sasha is 9.
Facebook officially has a lower age limit of 13 for its users, but kids who are much younger frequently register for accounts at the popular website by simply lying about their age when they sign up.
As to whether her kids will be allowed to sign up for accounts in the future, the first lady said: "It depends on when we leave (the White House) and how old they are."
