Lisbon - Former Mauritius president, Karl Auguste Offmann, has called for international solidarity to fight climate-induced disasters that affect his country annually.
Offman said in an interview on the sidelines of the European Development Days summit that there was a lack of concrete action in dealing with climatic disasters.
"We are the worst affected nation by natural disasters induced by climatic because of our position.
"I think some nations do not realise the importance of international solidarity to solve climatic problems," said Offmann, who ruled the Indian Ocean island state from 2001 to 2003.
He said the effects of climatic change would affect every nation - "poor or rich"- if no immediate solutions were found.
"Coming from a small island country which has all the odds of having its water levels rising to such an extent that all its beautiful islands are submerged, we know the effects of climatic change on our population."
