London - McDonald's will convert its British delivery fleet to run on biodiesel made from its own recycled cooking oil, the firm said on Monday in a statement.
The fastfood chain aims to switch all its 155 vehicles to run on biodiesel in the next 12 months, it told Reuters.
The process will start on Monday with half its 45-strong fleet based in Basingstoke, in southern England.
The biodiesel will be made up of 85% used cooking oil collected from around 900 McDonald's restaurants and 15% from pure rapeseed oil.
By using the fuel, McDonald's will save 1 675 tons of carbon per year, the statement said.
