San Francisco - Microsoft Corp will this week launch a pilot software platform which aims to enable users to synchronise all their computers and handheld devices via an internet-based application.
The platform, which is called Live Mesh, will allow files, in a range of formats, to be stored on Microsoft servers, accessible via the internet, allowing people to track all their files across multiple computers.
It comes at a time when the Redmond, Washington-based software giant is facing challenges to its dominance of the desktop operating system and office software market.
Microsoft wants to encourage software developers to write code for Live Mesh to make Microsoft-compatible devices work with others.
