Singapore - Regulators in Singapore are reviewing a list of anti-spam measures while an overwhelming number of consumers in the United States favour legally banning spam or limiting it by law, a report said on Monday.
The Infocomm Development Authority (IDA) here is keeping a close watch on international developments in the arena, said The Business Times.
It cited two surveys revealing 80% of US consumers polled want spam to be banned or limited by law. About 60% favour charging spammers in court under criminal prosecution laws.
A survey by ePrivacy Group and the Ponemon Institute polled 1 090 adults and found 25% of all e-mail traffic arrives daily in 61% of consumers' in-boxes.
Nearly 40% of consumers spend 30 minutes or more each day just dealing with span.
Spam is forecast to account for around 50% of all e-mail by 2004, according to Gartner Inc. - Sapa-DPA
