Save up and you could have one too. You're obviously very jealous.

Clearly u don't own one Apple product. Even if the ipad has one or two improvements its still better than the previous one. The display alone is reason enough to buy it. And besides the new one typically costs the same as the old one so that's fair. I can't wait for mine

Yes. Because the only people buying the iPad 3 will be iPad 1/2 owners. Just like the only people who bought the iPad 1 were owners of the iPad 0...wait. Forget money. Here...have some intelligence.

Whats better to buy now, Ipad3 or Ipad 2, considering prices and value for money?

      Huey - 2012-04-16 18:32

Go for the 2 - good value. The 3 has LTE, which, thanks to Icasa and our esteemed minister has not been rolled out in SA (all the spectrum currently with Sentech and Neotel) - so you won't get the benefit of the fast internet connectivity. I bought a 3 from the UK and I think the screen is great as well as the speech recognition for dictation. Our app store is somewhat limited so you may struggle to get games and so on that take advantage of the upgraded GPU. Most of the other apps (news sites, fb etc) have an upgraded app version for the 3, but if looks don't excite you rather save the cash and go for a 2.

I really don't want to sound like some ass here but its not an iPad3, it's simply 'the new iPad'. iPad3 will probably only be introduced late next year

@elewies you are quite right, apple have dropped the numbering system. People need to accept tablets as a form factor that is here to stay. The yearly model updates will come like laptop updates, and you don't refer to MacBooks by a numbering system. There will never be a completely revised iPad model again, small increments only.

@marx if you were to buy a laptop, would you buy the outgoing dated model? No, tablets will also have a life clue simlar to laptops, always get the most recent one to have the longest use. My iPad 1 is still going strong after 2 years and I won't consider swapping just yet. @huey your answer is 99% right, however the 4g model includes updates to support HSPA+, which is already rolled out by the likes of CELL-C which is a massive improvement over the 3G chipset on the 2nd gen iPad supporting speeds up to 21mbps

  • Simon Patrick Ric-Hansen - 2012-04-16 17:34

I would hold up on getting the new iPad. My friend has had his replaced 3 times already in a month. Twice for dead pixels and now for a problem with the 4g components not working properly.

I love the idiotic blind hate mailers here. I, in fact only use apple products, I was merely giving a warning. And as to the "trending", have a look at the new ipad update. There is a issue with the switching between 2g and 3g networks that they have now tried to patch.

already have mine, friend bought it for me for R 5300 (16gb with 4 G) here it will be R 8500 what a rip off, when will Apple realize that the SA market is way bigger than the NZ market where they offer full support & local sales, resellers are just not the same thing

      Ned - 2012-04-16 21:15

At $929 incl GST, your ZAR equiv is R6100, not R5300 (16GB + 4G model as per NZ apple store), which is R200 shy of projected SA price. I'll stay in SA thanks!

The new iPad. Ah - I own the second gen and will not change to the new one at this point, but if I didn't own one, I certainly would have gone for the third gen (it's not an iPad 3). I think people should wait a bit until Apple deals with the fact that the new iPad is reported to overheat with extended or extensive use. Probably not too much of a challenge for them - and will be fixed with the next shipment. As for me, I suspect I will be able to get by just fine on my current iPad. I doubt Apple is targeting second gen iPad owners anyway. The new features are not enough for one to upgrade, but they are more than enough for prospective iPad owners to run to their nearest apple store. As for those calling applenauts sheep etc, they are sheep themselves for buying into the anti-apple hype. If these people were to be told water drinkers are sheep, they would try to live on beer to show how cool and different they are. Fact is, water's good for you and you simply cannot argue with that. Apple products just work. No need to fight it.

And SA has 4g to accommodate this thing. Ja right. iPad 4 in December I bet. Luv my 2 tho. Better than a phone.
