R800m for green fund: Molewa

2012-05-02 20:40

Cape Town - Treasury has made R800 million available for its Green Fund over the next two years, Environment Minister Edna Molewa announced on Wednesday.

Opening debate on her department's budget vote in the National Assembly, she told MPs that the Development Bank of Southern Africa had been appointed as the implementing agency for the fund.

"The primary objective of the Green Fund is to provide catalytic finance for high quality, high impact green economy projects, and mainstreaming activities which would not have been implemented without fiscal support," Molewa said.

Is that green as in greenbacks?

      Squeegee - 2012-05-02 20:58

Follow the money. Someone is going to get rich. He/she (equal opportunity crooks) will be connected to the ANC is some way.

      Mark - 2012-05-02 21:36

Yeah George, conferences throughout the year and nothing really needs to get done. The birthright, after all...

      sachasea - 2012-05-02 22:05

Hey look another R800 million ripe for the embezzling

  • Barefoot - 2012-05-02 20:49

Let's start first by commenting about how this is gona fail- nagging kids it's your chance- then we'll move to proper constructive debate

      George - 2012-05-02 20:56

cANCer doesn't debate. It eats at you until there is nothing left but bones. Have you heard of SCAMRAL?

      Aaron - 2012-05-02 21:01

If you honestly believe that even 10% of that money will wind up serving a constructive environmentally friendly purpose then you are deluded. What will really happen: R10m spent on planting a few trees and running an ad campaign, R790m in "consultant fees and services".

      Barefoot - 2012-05-02 21:05

Go on it's still your chance, 'm not going to respond now

      louis.langenhoven - 2012-05-02 21:23

you're barefoot already and you support the skelms? if you don't beware you'll be kaalg@t in the near future

      Piet - 2012-05-02 22:11

show me one success that was free of corruption, just one?

      marko.miladinovic.52 - 2012-05-02 22:41

I think barefoot can't make a sensible debate any way. He seem to be one of those know all people who constantly want to make sensible debates. The bottom line is him and his corrupt government are oxygen stealing parrisites that will suck this country dry. Wait still no comment from Barefoot. No he probably has no foot to stand on (no punn intended).

Put the money toward housing and electrification for the squatters(as promised) and put out the fires used to cook on. And get zuma to shut up, every time he opens his mouth he emits greenhouse gases.

  • Christo - 2012-05-02 21:11

Another R800m down the drain . . . into meetings and salaries for people that get absolutely nothing done.

    Yeah!

  • Cape - 2012-05-02 21:35

This is good news if these funds are actually used for environmental projects. Let's be optomistic and hope that all government officials aren't as corrupt as the guys toward the top of the chain. South Africa really has an great opportunity to make an huge impression on global environment issues yet we are dragging our heels.

      Mark - 2012-05-02 21:46

CapeGtown. The eternal optimist! I need to go no further than EKSDOM and their monopolistic hold on electricity, that holds back many small green projects of less than 1MW output (such as pig-farmers and other intensive agricultural operations that produce lots of organic waste that can be converted into energy). Not forgetting the rapacious municipalities that profiteer from distributing for EKSDOM.

      marko.miladinovic.52 - 2012-05-02 22:30

After 18 years of ANC corrupt rule and you are still optamistic. You must be a very slow learner.

  • Ken - 2012-05-02 21:36

Does "green fund" mean we split the money only between ministers or do we share with the lower ranks as well?

  • IcemanGP - 2012-05-02 21:38

Mmm, sounds like another way of distributing tax funds to friends.

  • TheVern69 - 2012-05-02 21:39

  • marko.miladinovic.52 - 2012-05-02 21:39

How much will be stolen before any money will reach the intended place?

  • Koketso - 2012-05-02 21:42

Where are they getting the money from? With the amount of money they spending over short periods of time, we should be colonising Mars by Saterday.

More job creation for cadres. The salary of the CEO+CFO+DG+Pals should suck up R800 mil in no time, just like Tata Ma Chance(More cash spent on staff than Charity). Another vote Zoooooooma at Mangaung or lose your job. Together we can do more crime(The ANC motto of 2000)

  • Raj - 2012-05-02 22:32

Wow!!! That's R33.3m per month budgeted for spending. I wonder if this includes business class flights, meals and accommodation? Lol please help I am looking for a second job to fill fuel in my car, accommodate the increase in food prices, pay my rent and utility bills and of course pay for my child's education and my medical bills. Eish, isn't life difficult nowadays.

      Raj - 2012-05-03 06:09

kensong.ben.7 since you are not up to date with these ministers foolish spending, I forgive your stupidity. Not sarcastic its the truth, face reality man

  • Christo - 2012-05-02 22:32

Point is, wealth resides in the white group after 18 years of freedom, despite BEE, and funded projects like this. The ANC and freed blacks have seized to create wealth themselves though entrepeneurial activities. They've depleted the reserve funds and have taken what they can from the white population group. White, coloured and Indian are being forced to unite. We are suppose to put racism behind us, but the ANC enforces racism through racistic differentiation. Appointments based on race is the general rule . . and after 18 years it took them nowhere. South Africa is currently more racistic than EVER before. And the ANC is driving the endeavour.

  • Raj - 2012-05-02 22:45

Yoh, R800M and it seems like this country is going through a \recession\ is it just me finding a very low buying power?
