Seoul - Samsung Electronics, the world's top memory chip maker, says it has developed a new graphic memory chip which is the world's fastest in processing mass visual data.
GDDR4 is the latest of the graphics double-data-rate memory chip series largely used for computer graphic cards. It can process four gigabytes of data, equivalent to eight DVD-class films, per second, the South Korean firm said.
The new graphic memory chip has increased the data-processing speed of currently available ones by two-thirds, the company added.
"This will enable ultra-smooth movements in animation, making games incredibly realistic, resulting in a truly immersive experience," Mueez Deen, a marketing director of Samsung, said in a statement.
Samsung expects to begin mass-producing the new chip in the second half of this year.
