Cape Town - As the number of people shopping over the internet increases, a new kind of portal has just launched in South Africa.
Fatwallet.co.za is offering shoppers cash back on purchases made through stores on its website.
The site is aiming to capitalise on the increase in online spending and promises to make shoppers' money go even further by rewarding them with up to 20% cash back on purchases.
Fatwallet has links to stores selling insurance, cars, DVD's, books, music, computers, electronics, flowers, gifts and includes many of South Africa's leading online merchants including Truworths, Netflorist, Musica and Digital Planet.
According to a press release, South Africans spent around R668m (excluding air tickets) in 2006, with 20% annual increases anticipated for the next few years.
"I was tired of seeing overstretched South African consumers paying too much for goods and services and devised this model in order to allow shoppers to earn cash while shopping," said company founder Shamiel Galant.
"Membership is free and anyone can sign up and start earning cash back immediately."
