Madrid - Spain carried out a major operation against an online child pornography ring on Monday, arresting a number of suspects in Catalonia and other regions, police said.
"A number of arrests have taken place, but we cannot provide any numbers," a spokesperson for police in Catalonia told AFP, adding that the investigation was confidential.
Spanish media reported that police had raided a number of homes in Barcelona, A Coruna, Madrid, Zaragoza, Valencia and Andalucia.
One of the alleged leaders of the ring was arrested in Barcelona, local media reported, and had been running a website on which 400 users exchanged child pornography.
Spanish news agency Europa Press reported, quoting a neighbour, that the suspect was a Spanish man in his 20s who lived with his mother and sister and studied computers.
On October 8, Spanish police carried out a vast operation against online child pornography, arresting 57 people and charging 47 others.
