UK may restrict tweets from court
London - The Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales says courts may restrict the public's freedom to post Twitter updates from inside hearings.
Justice Igor Judge's office says in a report it is considering the implications of smartphones being used inside courts.
In Britain, television cameras are not permitted to broadcast criminal cases.
Judge's office said in some instances only members of the press - not the public - attending court may be permitted to use Twitter.
Monday's report follows concern that members of the public don't have knowledge of media law, and could post updates which fall foul of the rules.
New communications "increase the magnitude of the harm that may be caused by mis-reporting court proceedings", Judge's office said.
