UK reveals UFO 'X-Files'

2012-07-12 08:25

London - Britain on Thursday released an archive of "X-Files" detailing government UFO briefings and probes into unexplained sightings, including one above Chelsea football club.

The 25 files released by The National Archives include "a lengthy briefing on UFO policy to then Prime Minister Tony Blair's office" along with a job description for the post of UFO desk officer, described as the "weirdest job in Whitehall".

According to an employee of the UFO desk, which closed in 2009, the perception that it consisted of "top secret teams of specialist scientists scurrying around the country in a real life version of the X-Files" was "total fiction".

Instead, daily duties included providing briefings on the Ministry of Defence's (MoD) position on UFOs, undertaking UFO investigations, handling Freedom of Information requests (FOIs) and managing UFOlogists (UFO "experts").

Among the stranger investigations included one into a UFO sighting by a police officer at Chelsea football club and another into a visit by three "men in black" to a person who reported a UFO encounter in Lincolnshire, east England.

Evidence

According to the files, a hotel owner in Wales once complained to her MP after a UFO landed in a field "from which two tall silver-suited 'faceless humanoids' emerged and began "making measurements'".

Also included in the files are details of a 1995 briefing by one of the MoD's UFO intelligence officers which speculated on why aliens would visit earth.

Despite having no hard evidence for alien craft, the officer explained that any visit would most likely be motivated by military reconnaissance, scientific development or tourism.

In a briefing prepared for the MoD in 1979, a UFO intelligence officer noted that no radio tracking systems had ever picked up any alien transmissions.

The release of the documents came after an FOI request by David Clarke, author of the book The UFO files and a lecturer at Sheffield Hallam University.

"These records allow us to look behind the scenes of what must have been one of the strangest jobs in Whitehall" (shorthand for Britain's civil service), said Clarke.

"We now have a fascinating insight into some of the extraordinary reports and briefings which passed over the UFO Desk on a daily basis and how its officers used logic and science in their attempts to explain 'the unexplained'," he added.

This YouTube video claims to show UFOs sighted in June 2012:

Why is the footage of UFO sightings always so vague?? Makes you think..

      martin.britchford.5 - 2012-07-12 09:38

look for a 2012 vid on youtube, by some guys at the capetown stadium at night, shot from inside the stadium, best vid i seen in a long time, the owner has the original footage in HD, but the you tube vid had to be compressed, still very good vid,

      Greg - 2012-07-12 09:49

@Jaco.. Its "Vague" because the mainstream media have never reported on any of this so it seems "new" to you. The MSM decide what people should and shouldn't know. News is filtered all the time and the fact that the UK are releasing top secret UFO documents, 2 weeks away from the Olympics, makes me think "Disclosure" fake or real, will be happening very soon.. These orbs have been seen, and have been recorded for over 5000 years. Ancient Sumerian's, the oldest civilisation known to man have paintings depicting these orbs in the sky not to mention the Egyptians, Mayans and many more ancient civilisation and even renaissance artist have these depicted in paintings as well. Remember, this is only LAST MONTH's sightings. There have been hundreds, of thousands of recorded sightings in the last 100 years.. In WW2 US fighter pilots saw these orbs and thought they were secret German weapons and were referred to as "Foo fighters" (look it up) These orbs are extremely common in Mexico and have been reported on by their local news agencies. (look it up) Lastly, why would UFO sightings/reports be top secret information for so many years? If people knew the truth, control on civilisation through religion would fly out the window. Perhaps disclosure is on its way. "Out of the Chaos, comes order"

      martin.britchford.5 - 2012-07-12 09:54

i have seen things flying that are not rockets, not fighter aircraftk, not balloons, not birds, these are intellegent made craft, that move very very unnaturally, stop hover, move around a bit and clear the horizon in under 5 seconds, not human,

      badballie - 2012-07-12 11:06

I'm sure the photographers will make sure they are set up for the next sighting in advance OK?

      merven.halo - 2012-07-12 13:56

Make me think of a couple of years ago. All these UFO sighting suddenly appeared, many years later it came out that is was the US Air force testing the new B2 Stealth Bomber.

"Either we're alone in the universe or we are not; either way it's mind-boggling."

      Practice - 2012-07-13 06:09

Maybe it's vague because it isn't shot by BBC crews waiting with a camera setup at precisely the right location.

What a bunch of BS! Firstly why are the video's shot so badly? Secondly they always come across as little "lights" in the sky? Why hover above and not come down? IF there is such a thing as "UFO" it is man made and by man made i mean the top secret military NASA experiments. Always a secrecy and never to be told to the human race as it might cause "panic". People are starting to wake up and realize everything NASA, Government, and the so called MIB, Secret society, Elite, Media ETC is a bunch of BS. They only let you see and believe what they want so they can F*** with your minds and make you believe anything and everything they say is true!! People believing this is sheep of the SYSTEM!! Wake up !!

      Johan - 2012-07-12 11:12

So no UFO's just another conspiracy. Damn I am sure you see them waiting for you every morning as you come out you house. The bad people CIA, MIB, Nasa. Mmm lucky you are not a sheep. A cow maybe?

      madd.hatter.7 - 2012-07-13 22:12

The word govern comes from the Late Latin or Middle English and can be summed up as meaning 'to control' the suffix 'ment' is from the Latin root and means 'Mind'. It is crazy how obvious this blatant abuse is. I believe that we are only as perceptive as the number of words in our vocabulary.

  • eyesears.handsfeet - 2012-07-12 11:02

I'm an ALIEN, that's why some people believe I do not belong on earth. No science or religion needed to figure that out! That does NOT mean that I "pray" to an alien god. Just the UK trying to confuse people (as usual!)

  • badballie - 2012-07-12 11:05

It is inconceivable that even after mass sightings of UFO's by thousands of people in the same place at the same time, a large part of the population still denies the existence of UFO's while at the same time placing their lives and faith in the "hands" of a benevolent Zombie who is only refereed to in a book.

  • badballie - 2012-07-12 11:12

In the 1960's the US convened a special meeting of its best astronomers and scientists to discuss the existence of Aliens and to decide if such a discover could safely be divulged to the public, their answer was that the existence of intelligent alien life should never be released to the public and that it was in the best interests of the government to deny any knowledge of, and to refute any evidence of Alien life. Irrespective of the truth, the decision made forces the intelligent man to question anything said by government, as by the release of this documented meeting the government had effectively stated publicly that it would lie to the people to protect itself.

johan.fourie.566 -> thanks for calling me a COW!! Hope that made your day u poor sod! did i perhaps hit a nerve ?... u obviously believe this crap! Go do your research man!

  • JNaMolefe - 2012-07-12 13:29

YES! I knew they came, I sensed them. Now you believe that UFO is existing!! God or Aliens, its difficult for me to decide because this video proves its true. Damn, it's so real!

  • arthur.hugh - 2012-07-12 13:36

I've seen one (Unidentified Flying Object, not necessarily an alien aircraft) with seven other witnesses (we were in two cars). Thought it was a redish moon, then it zig zagged down and shot off into the horizon. We watched it for about 30 minutes, popping in and out of the horizon at different points. It was quite exciting. No clue what it was though. Dead quiet, impossibly fast. Thought maybe ball lightening but then it kept appearing in the horizon near some ship lights. If it was only me who saw it I'd think I'm crazy, but there were 8 of us.

  • hugh.olphart - 2012-07-12 14:45

"Either we're alone in the universe or we are not; either way it's mind-boggling." Taking the size of the universe, the sheer number of stars and planets, the likelihood of extraterrestrial life is quite plausible. How they would get here is beyond my comprehension since it would take lifetimes to travel this far. If we are alone, explain how or why only us? no Jesus stuff please.. The arguments of the poor camera shots are simple, the likelyhood of your Cell phone getting quality shots lookiing into the sky or night are poor. What these objects are is unknown, hence the term. The fact that these things dont conform to normal flight patterns and defy logic on their speed and manoverability excludes them from the normal. The question is what happens when we find out they are for real? how does our world change?

  • ben.louw.5 - 2012-07-12 15:16

Hahaha! Love the "Bounce off the sun" clip. Hahaha!

  • ben.louw.5 - 2012-07-12 16:13

I think it's safe to say that there is life out there, even if it's just bacterial. That'll be awesome enough. As for flying UFO alien type. I'm a bit sceptical there but wont just dismiss it. I just wonder... if they're on the level of intergalactic travel... why come here? sense of humour?

  • shannon.mcmurtrie.3 - 2012-07-13 10:36

Yip, they are very real, seen them meself!!
