Algiers - Ten UN staff, all Algerians, were among the dead from a car bomb attack on a UN refugee agency building in Algiers on Tuesday, a senior UN official said.
All were in the offices of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees and neighbouring UN Development Programme (UNDP) when the bomb went off, said the official, speaking on condition of anonymity.
"Ten colleagues, all Algerians, were killed in the attack, most of them are employees at the UNDP," said the official.
Several injured were still trapped in the debris several hours after the attack, according to journalists at the scene.
According to hospital sources, 52 people were killed in the attack on the UN offices and another bomb outside the Supreme Court in central Algiers.
