Vodacom cagey on brand change

2011-03-22 22:52

Cape Town - Vodacom has refused to comment on speculation that it is changing its branding, but there are changes at the cellular provider.

TechCentral reported that the large Vodacom "globe", which used to be installed in front of the company's head office in Midrand, was being transported on the back of a truck down Old Pretoria Road in Sandton.

"We're aware of the speculation, but we're making lots of changes," executive head of media relations at Vodacom, Richard Boorman told News24.

He would not be drawn on speculation that Vodacom was changing its branding to more closely reflect parent company Vodafone.

"We're making lots of changes to ensure that the customer is at the centre of everything we do," said Boorman.

Vodacom SA is planning to make a number of changes to the way its call centres are organised. It will redeploy 275 staff within Vodacom in order to establish centres of excellence with specialist call centre providers, the company said.

As for branding changes, Boorman was vague:

"You'll just have to wait and see."

i agree, what about proper service, decent reception, real world call costs, not your outragious "but south has cellular competion with 3 networks" bullshit. To route an sms costs less that 10 cents, fact ! rumours are it may even cost less than a cent. And what about real broadband ? 3G ? HSDPA ? Yeah the speeds may look broadband but costs are from overcharge band

Unauthorised item on my VODACOM ACCOUNT!!!!!!!!! I have received my Vodacom account with an unauthorised item on it. Content Services - R194.40 R27.22 - total R 221.62 I did not request it. Yet when I phoned VODACOM today they said I will not get a credit and I must cancel it from a certain supplier. According to Vodacom I requested it.

Well, they're obviously rebranding to better reflect their parent company - Vodafone. I think changing the logo/colour of the branding is going to be a very bad move. Vodacom's spent so many years building up their brand, only to change it once the colour blue and their logo is synonymous with their company. Worst of all is that the colour red was extensively used by Cell C and is used by Virgin Mobile. Sad.

Well hopefully this is a step in the right direction. I hoped that once vodafone bought out telkoms shares, service levels would start increasing. So this may be the change we have all been waiting for!

Vodacom Tanzania, launched there rebranding last Friday in a very posh 5 star Hotel in Dar es Salaam. They will still use the name Vodacom but their brand colour blue change to red, to bring it in line with Vodafone's branding. "to be vague" on this issue does not make sense, it's due to happen. The amount of money Vodacom will spend on the change over of the branding is huge, on the other side the services they provide especially in TZ are very poor and falling apart.

Vodacom network is very very poor, I have five contract numbers with vodacom that I am planning to port to mtn & cell c. This is due to the fact that I telephoned them about their bad network in my new area and they promised to come and assess the place and come back to me within fourteen days, more than a month later I am still waiting for their response. I was forced to take an MTN contract because the Vodacom network was just terrible, it was impossible to make/receive calls. Goodbye vodacom starting with my first contract ending next month.

personally i think their logo's colours are too close to telkom's colours, perhaps that's why they're opting for white text, a vodaphone logo, black dropshadows and a red background. check the stadiums within the next month, you'll see it at loftus.

Actually Vodafone bought a majority share in Vodacom. Vodafone's colour is red. Who used to be red in SA? Cell C. Is Cell C still red? No. Why do you think that is...
