Web comic fuels donations to Tesla's lab

Shoreham - Support from a popular web cartoonist is re-energising a decades-long effort to restore a decrepit, 110-year-old old laboratory once used by visionary scientist Nikola Tesla.

In little more than a week, tens of thousands of donors from more than 100 countries have donated more than $1m online to pay for the restoration of Tesla's Wardenclyffe laboratory on Long Island, about 105km east of New York City.

Cartoonist Matthew Inman, who runs theoatmeal.com, stepped in this month and urged readers to back the project. The original goal was $850 000, but Inman said the funds have kept pouring in.

He said organisers may not only be able to buy the $1.6m property, but have enough left over to start work on a museum and science centre.

Tesla, the true visionary, dedicated his entire life to science, and was exploited by capitalist Edison.

Not Edison, it was J.P Morgan.

One of humanities greatest minds. Many of his inventions were stolen by others, such as Edison. He was a bit cooky, but geniuses usually are "out there."

I've always wondered how close he came to a final solution, I have always believed he was a threat to profits which is why he was ridiculed and sidelined.

well, the good news is that if the final solution was achieavable then it can STILL be achieved! just because humanity lost Tesla long ago, it does not mean that the earth stopped rotating! We just need to continue his work with all the 21st century's technology! It bothers me that the free-energy has not yet been achieved! even in small scale! The only thing that I can think of is this wireless electricity charges that are still waiting to get off the ground! My thoughts are that once we become a space-faring civilisation, then electricity NEEDS to be transferred wirelessly across hundreds of thousands of kilometers in space! At that point we could harness solar energy in space and then transmit the energy to earth via waves - hence free electricity!... There isa LOT OF SCOPE out there..! Also when we get out there and we start minning the solar system, we will have to find a different variant of economy as today's monetary value will mean ittle to nothing in the future! Can y uimagine one day we will even meet with other civilisations? OUR monetary economy will mean NOTHING to them..! So we HAVE to evolve further in our economical thinking... sooner than later...

oh yeah forgot to mention - malema and the land grabbing idiots will be left in the dusty old earth and we'd be soaring towards the stars... how cool is that hey??? lol
