iPhone 4S sales soar

2011-10-11 07:24

San Francisco - Apple sold a record 1 million units of its new iPhone 4S on the first day the device went on sale, the company said on Monday.

The record-breaking one day sales figure came despite widespread disappointment that Apple did not introduce an all-new iPhone, rather than keeping with the design of the existing iPhone 4 and just upgrading some components.

However, industry watchers said that sales were lprobably boosted by the massive media coverage of the death of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs on Wednesday, less than two days before the iPhone 4S went on sale.

The previous sales record of 600 000 was set by the iPhone 4 in 2010.

"We are blown away with the incredible customer response to iPhone 4S," said Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of worldwide product marketing.

"The first day pre-orders for iPhone 4S have been the most for any new product that Apple has ever launched and we are thrilled that customers love iPhone 4S as much as we do."

For a small journalistic piece such as this one, I'm quite sure some research and clarity wouldn't have been too hard to attempt - the one million units are actually pre-orders which are being shippecd to customers and will be delivered on or around the 14th. This only breaks the record of pre-orders, not actual sales, so get your facts straight. In addition, the iPhone 4s broke Verizon's pre-orders by notching up 200,000 orders in the first 12 hours.

Pre Order - sales, what the diffence? Sometimes you should leave your clever comments for the boardroom.
